For 50 years, the Rotary Club of North Suffolk has brought people together through friendship, leadership, and a shared commitment to Service Above Self. Along the way, we’ve also discovered that doing good and having a good laugh belong together.

Established in 1976, North Suffolk Rotary has built a lasting tradition of serving our neighbors and strengthening our community. Founder, charter member, and past president Hinton Darden Hurff Sr. helped lay the foundation for a club whose impact continues today.

But our history isn’t measured only in projects completed and funds raised. It’s also measured in friendships, laughter, and stories that seem to get a little better every time they’re told.

Over the years, Dick Esleeck, Chet Hart, Richard Turner, and numerous others have helped make club life memorable. They’ve reminded us that Service Above Self doesn’t require taking ourselves too seriously—and that a room full of Rotarians rarely lacks an opinion, a punch line, or someone willing to offer both.

A Legacy Worth Celebrating

Through fundraising, volunteering, and community partnerships, North Suffolk Rotary supports children, families, education, and health care. Our work includes support for Roc Solid Foundation, Western Tidewater Free Clinic, and Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads, along with co-presenting the Suffolk First Citizen Award.

This anniversary is a chance to honor that service, reconnect with friends, and remember the personalities who have made the journey so much fun.

There are 50 years of stories to catch up on. Fortunately, we’ve reserved more time than a Friday morning meeting.
